Cougar Town
is a situational comedy based on Jules - a newly-divorced, attractive single mother of 40 (played by Friends actress Courteney Cox) who, with the help of her younger real estate co-worker, tries to re-enter the dating world. Much of the storyline revolves around fighting the stigma of the older woman/younger man relationship but generally pokes fun at family relationships and friendships in modern society.

Apart from her younger, wilder co-worker Ellie, Jules' 'family' extensively includes her ex-husband Bobby, their teenage son Travis, their best friends Laurie and Andy who live next door and their recently divorced male neighbour Grayson living across the street. Again, much of the humour is derived from Jules and Grayson's characters exposing the double-standards in our culture (Grayson seems to be enjoying a string of much younger lovers and no-one judges him yet Jules feels openly criticised for dating younger guys!!)

You may be forgiven for thinking Cox is a screeching Monica on speed (her Friends' character) or that the pace of the show is a little too fast (maybe the producers have had a little help too!) but never-the-less, the comedic antics are fun to watch and the cast deliver lines with expert timing. What's not to like?! This is a great bubbly bottle of champagne waiting to pop!! Check it out on RTE Two, Mondays at 9pm
