Lifestyle: Environmentally Friendly - Top 10 Tips!
Some of these tips may seem obvious to most of us but you'd be surprised how many of us take the easy way out when it comes to being environmentally friendly. Especially when we are under pressure and have so little time these days. Check to see how many of these activities you do and how environmentally friendly you are..
10. Grow your own fruit and veg! Think yummy summer berries and winter country veg like carrots, potatoes and broccoli - why not?!
9. Water your garden with a watering can - it uses much less water than a hosepipe!
8. Check the weather forecast before you water your garden - it may rain soon!
7. Raise the blades on your lawn mower, longer lawns need less water!
6. For cold drinks in the summer, keep a jug of tap water in the fridge, therefore you don't have to run the tap for a long time!
5. Wait for a full load in dishwashers and washing machines to cut down on 'wasted' electricity. For instance, if you have a 'half load' button/setting on your washing machine, use it when you do a half load!
4. Shop for products with less packaging, and if possible, with packaging that can be recycled!
3. Avoid buying and using disposable (anything) plastic or paper cups, plates, cutlery and napkins for picnics etc. It doesn't take too long to wash up a few plates and the environment will thank you for it!
2. When food shopping, always check sell-by dates and be honest with yourself in terms of if it will definitely be eaten by then!
1. Due to global warming, Ireland is getting warmer so take advantage of the glorious sun and hang those clothes out to dry instead of using tumble drier!
