Beauty: Great scot! It's a Collagen Pod!!

leftOkay, this week I was invited along to a Chartbusters store (DVD Rental, Tanning, VibroPlates, Internet access etc) to try out a new treatment in The Collagen Pod.

I was told my body was going to be sent back in time - 12 minutes at a time, using Red Light Therapy which aims to reverse the signs of ageing, slightly. I was intrigued.

There was no Marty McFly, Doc Brown or Einstein and I certainly wasn't going at 88 miles per hour (I wish!) but it was certainly worth a go - Flux Capacitor or not!

At first I was a little bit scared it would actually have the opposite effect and wrinkle me to bits because I had had experiences in the past with tanning machines and was convinced after only a few sessions I had extra lines under my eyes!! I swore to myself never again - damn those sunbeds!

So I read through as much literature as possible then (and since) and decided to give those illuminous pink bulbs a chance to blind my thirty-two year old body into thinking it was only twenty-two! Now I don't think it's in that bad a way or anything (considering I just had a baby three months ago) but every woman knows that any improvement to her skin is worth its weight in gold.

rightThe Collagen Pod was actually a stand-up one, contrary to the picture above, and for the whole session reminded me of a stand-up tanning machine. What I have discovered is that Red Light Therapy is a healing strategy that makes use of red tinted light in order to stimulate the body’s natural defence systems and brings relief from various ailments. It has been used in America since the 1950s and is currently used by NASA, the US Army and professional athletes to speed up injury and recovery time.

The idea behind the Collagen pod is that the red light is absorbed by the skin's membranes and stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin fibres. This basically means it's good for smoothing out wrinkles, fine lines, cellulite, stretch marks and even scar tissue. To see the best results, it is recommended you use the machine for a period of 12 weeks but seemingly some clients saw a difference in hair and skin after 3 to 4 weeks (approx. 12 minute sessions a couple of times a week).

Chartbusters are offering sessions at €21 a go as and from this week. It has been widely known that this beauty treatment in the UK will cost £200 a session. It all sounds terrific and I want to believe in 'the pod' whole-heartedly, after all it is also supposed to aid depression, cure migraine and acne, but I guess seeing is believing. I need a few more sessions before I decide if it works.
